FAQ
The saunas
It’s nice to know what to expect. On this page, you’ll find answers to the questions we get asked most often.
Didn’t find what you were looking for?
Do I need to book in advance?
At the moment, we are still operating without reservations, so you can simply drop by whenever you like.
What are the health benefits of a sauna visit?
A visit to the sauna stimulates your blood circulation, helps your muscles relax, supports your immune system, and brings mental calm. Many people experience less stress, better sleep, and smoother skin after a sauna day.
What is Asanti’s address?
Damvalleistraat 31, 9070 Destelbergen.
Is there enough parking available?
Yes, you can park easily and free of charge right next to the entrance. We have plenty of on-site parking, so there’s no need to search for a space or pay extra. Coming by bike or with an electric car? We’ve got you covered for those as well. This way, your visit to Asanti starts in a relaxed way even before you step inside.
Which days are best for a visit?
Every day is a good day to visit the sauna. Tuesdays (swimwear-allowed day) and Thursdays are usually the quietest.
Should I wear swimwear or not?
Asanti is a public nude sauna. Only on Tuesdays is swimwear allowed, but it is not required.
Are children welcome?
Everyone is welcome at Asanti. Children up to 16 years old must always remain under the supervision and responsibility of an adult. We do ask that young visitors respect the peace and relaxation of other guests.
What should I bring for my sauna day?
We recommend bringing one or two large towels, a bathrobe, and slippers. Towels and bathrobes can also be rented, and stylish slippers are available for purchase at the reception at a friendly price.
What should I definitely not bring?
It’s best to leave smartphones and other electronics at home or in your locker, so you can fully switch off and enjoy the experience. Bringing your own food and drinks is also not allowed — our bar and restaurant are there to serve you.
Will a sauna visit help me if I find it hard to relax?
Yes, in fact, it might be exactly what you need. Relaxing “on command” isn’t always easy, especially in a busy life full of to-do lists and constant stimulation. The warmth of the sauna works on your body first — your mind follows. Your heart rate slows, your muscles loosen, and your breathing deepens. This isn’t a performance; there’s nothing you “have” to do. Simply be — in silence or with soft music — among others who are also unwinding. For many guests, it feels like coming home to themselves. And if it doesn’t work the first time, it might the second or third. Everything in its own time.
What does a typical sauna ritual look like?
A classic sauna ritual consists of warming up in the sauna, cooling down under a shower or in a plunge pool, then resting and hydrating. Ideally, this process is repeated three times for the best effect. In between, you can also make use of steam baths, relaxation areas, or wellness treatments.
Is wellness also for me if I can’t handle heat well?
Absolutely. Wellness is so much more than heat. At Asanti, it’s about finding peace in your own way. We don’t just have warm saunas and steam baths — there are also invigorating plunge pools, a cool pool, a heated pool, relaxation zones, massages, gentle rituals, and quiet spaces for simply being. Some people stay only briefly in the heat and then enjoy the cooling and the silence even more. You don’t have to “endure” anything — just listen to your body and do what feels right. That’s wellness.
What if I feel a little self-conscious about the nude area?
We completely understand. Many people feel a little uneasy at first, and that’s okay. At Asanti, the atmosphere is one of respect, discretion, and silence. Everyone is here to relax, not to judge. You’ll often find that any self-consciousness fades quickly — because without clothing, social roles fall away too. You’re simply human, just like everyone else.
If you prefer to start with swimwear, come on Tuesday — our swimwear-allowed day, when wearing it is permitted but not required. This way, you can ease into it at your own pace. Feeling good in your body starts with kindness toward yourself.
How should I best prepare for a sauna visit?
Drink enough water beforehand, eat lightly, and bring a towel, bathrobe, slippers, and perhaps a book or magazine. Leave jewellery and strong perfumes at home. Arrive without rushing, so you can relax straight away.
How much time should I plan for a sauna visit?
Give yourself at least three hours — that’s often the minimum to truly unwind. This allows time to slow down, let your body adjust to the heat, cool down gently, and enjoy a drink or a sun lounger in between. Many guests stay for four to five hours, or even the whole day. But there’s no pressure — even a short pause can work wonders.
Is a sauna visit safe during pregnancy?
During a normal pregnancy, you can safely visit the sauna — but always consult your doctor first. For certain health conditions, such as heart problems or low blood pressure, caution is advised. Please also feel free to inform our team of your situation.
Can I keep my contact lenses in during the sauna or steam bath?
During a normal pregnancy, you can safely visit the sauna — but always consult your doctor first. For certain health conditions, such as heart problems or low blood pressure, caution is advised. Please also feel free to inform our team of your situation.
Can a sauna session relieve muscle pain?
Yes, absolutely. The heat of the sauna stimulates blood circulation, bringing oxygen and nutrients to your muscles more quickly. This helps with recovery and eases sore or stiff muscles. Many athletes swear by it — and even for everyday muscle tension, after a workday or a stressful week, a sauna session can do wonders. Combine it with cooling down and resting afterwards, and your body will thank you.
Do you also offer gift vouchers?
Yes, and they’re very popular! An Asanti gift voucher is an invitation to slow down, enjoy, and recharge. You choose the amount or a specific package, and we’ll make sure it’s beautifully presented — either digitally or on paper. Perfect for a birthday, a thank-you, or “just because.” Ordering is easy online or at our reception.

What is the difference between a sauna and a steam bath?
A sauna has dry, hot air (between 70°C and 100°C), while a steam bath is more humid and slightly cooler (around 45°C). Both have positive effects on your skin, breathing, and muscles, but the experience feels very different.
Is a sauna good for stress or burnout symptoms?
Yes, regular sauna sessions can help reduce stress and support recovery from burnout. The combination of warmth, silence, calm, and care helps both body and mind reach a state of deep relaxation.
